Introduction

For just over a decade now, Marvel has brought us 21 films depicting the superheros imagined by the late, great Stan Lee. Introduced to us one by one with the first Iron Man film, we then got Captain America and Thor, the original holy-trinity of superheroes, who then came together with the first Avengers film. This was Phase 1, as the filmmakers called it.

Things picked up steam, with our original heroes returning for more, then regrouping again for Avengers: Age of Ultron. From here, the Marvel Universe began to expand, and Phase 3 got under way, with new characters like Ant-Man, Doctor Strange and Black Panther making an entrance. And Spider-Man was nabbed rom Sony studios and welcomed into the Avengers family to join in all the antics.

Now, the film every Marvel fan has been waiting for is only 3 weeks away, and the anticipation for “Avengers: Endgame” is beyond huge. Given the cliff-hanger ending of “Avengers: Infinity War” that shocked us all, there is so much at stake this time around, and it’s a given that although our heroes will prevail, we can expect one or many of them will fall by the way. Who will that be? And what new heroes will take over to lead Marvels reign for Phase 4 and beyond?

If you’ve got the time, do yourself a favour and rewatch all the films mentioned below in the lead up to Endgame. You will take a fond trip down memory lane to see where it all started with 2008’s Iron Man, the film that started it all, and work your way through a vast catalogue of exciting, entertaining and well-made films.

But in this series of reviews I present to you here, the order of the films reviewed is based on the timeline of the story. So, even though it was the fifth film in the series, “Captain America: The First Avenger” will be first, as it’s set in the 1940’s, followed by “Captain Marvel”, which has only just been released at the movies in the lead up to Endgame, but that story is set in the 1990’s.

So, get ready to revisit or visit for the first time, all 21 movies in the Marvel cannon, out of order, but told in a way that will make sense once you’ve read these reviews or watched the films in this order.

My little way of helping you to whet your appetite before it all comes to an End later this month…

PS – Spoilers ahead.
